Why this applies to a small business too
Data protection and cookie law does not make an exception based on business size. A one-person sole trader who collects a name and email through a contact form is under the same rules as a large company.
In practice, this means almost every service business website needs at least a privacy notice, because a contact form collects personal data.
The privacy notice
A privacy notice states briefly what data is collected, what it is used for, who processes it, and how long it is kept. It does not need to be a complicated document, but it needs to be accurate and easy to find.
Minimum content: what data is collected, for example name, email, and phone number, why it is collected, who processes it, and how someone can request it be deleted.
The link to the notice needs to be easy to find, typically in the footer on every page, not hidden behind the contact form.
Business details
The business ID, the official business name, and contact details need to be clearly findable on the site, typically in a contact section or the footer. This is not only a legal requirement, it also builds trust. Missing basic details raise doubts about whether the business even exists.
DIGITALE
These are built into the site from day one.
A privacy notice, cookie consent, and business details are included in every site I build, not as a separate add-on.
What happens if these are missing
In practice, for a small service business, the risk is usually not a sudden fine, it is that the gaps only get noticed when a customer or a regulator asks about them. Fixing this is cheap and fast when done at build time rather than after the fact.
If you are updating an old site for other reasons, it is worth checking these at the same time. When a business needs a new website lists the other signs it is time.
These belong naturally as part of building the site, not as a separate project. Website pricing 2026 covers what is usually included in the price.
Summary
A privacy notice, cookie consent, and business details are not finishing touches. They are the minimum requirement.
A few lines of text now save an explanation later, if someone ever asks for them.
