Speed is a ranking factor, not just a comfort
Google uses page load speed directly as a ranking factor, not merely as a sign of good user experience. Two otherwise equal sites can rank differently purely because of a speed gap.
This matters even more on mobile, since Google evaluates a site primarily based on its mobile version. A slow mobile page does not just drive customers away, it also lowers the ranking of the entire site.
What a customer does when a site is slow
More than half of mobile visitors leave a site if it takes over three seconds to load. That departure happens before the customer has even seen what you sell or how good the business is.
A customer does not consciously think "this site is slow". They think "this does not work" and move to the next search result. A slow site is often read as untrustworthy, even when the actual cause is nothing more than unoptimised images.
How to test your own site
Google PageSpeed Insights (pagespeed.web.dev) gives a free score between 0 and 100 and lists the biggest causes of slowness. The test takes under a minute and works on any site without logging in.
For reference: Ekonetti's website scores a perfect 100 on both mobile and desktop.
Speed is one of five things worth testing at once: a ten minute checklist.
What usually causes slowness
Unoptimised images
A photo uploaded straight from a phone can be several megabytes, even though it displays at the size of a couple of centimetres on screen. Compressing images and serving them at the right size is the single most common speed fix.
Too many plugins or scripts
Every plugin, chat widget, or tracking tool added to a website builder loads its own code. A few additions on their own are not a problem, but they accumulate over the years and slow the site down unnoticed.
Outdated hosting or platform
The cheapest possible hosting plan, or a platform that has not been updated in years, shows up directly in load time. This is one of the few speed causes that cannot be fixed with a single setting and instead requires renewing the technical foundation.
DIGITALE
A perfect score is not an accident.
Ekonetti's site scores a perfect rating on Google's PageSpeed test. The same technical foundation goes into every site I build.
Speed is not a one-time project
A site that is fast at launch slows down over time without upkeep. New images, added features, and growing content add weight gradually, unless someone is keeping track.
Monitoring speed falls under the same maintenance work as technical upkeep and security. What maintenance actually includes covers the rest in more detail.
Slow loading is only one of seven reasons a site does not show up on Google. The seven most common reasons and how to fix them covers the other six.
Summary
Speed is not a technical detail. It has a direct effect on both Google's ranking and the customer's decision to stay on the page.
A site that loads in a second does not win a design contest. It wins the customer who would otherwise have already moved on to a competitor.
